Coaches Cable

Welcome to the Winter season and I hope you have all (parents & swimmers) enjoyed your breaks from training! Firstly I would like to congratulate all our Junior swimmers who competed and achieved at the State Junior Championships while I was away at the nationals,  Especially Chelsea Exell who won Gold in the backstroke. Coaches Dave and Brandon were very impressed by the squad and the way they raced over the 3 days. There were many medallists from the club at the Indian Ocean All Stars and Dive n Try final during April and May. I would like to thank all the swimmers and parents who were over in Sydney for the Australian Age and Open Championships during April. All swimmers represented the club very well and made steps to greater achievements. Kirsten Pannekoek achieved a goal of making it on to TV in the Semi-finals, although they had her representing NSW.

What an exciting winter I have planned for you all and it all starts at the Geraldton Swim Carnival at the end of May. I Look forward to catching up with everyone at the BBQ and hearing those stories about morning trainings.

Attached is the Winter competition schedule for outside meets for 2015. Outside meets are those which are not our own club run meets and are usually entered online. On the calendar under “Meet Type” you will notice who can compete at which swim meet. Eg. No qualifying times (no need to have a prior time). Please check with your coaches if your child is ready to compete at these, I would usually recommend for Junior squad members to have done at least 2 club meets before entering an outside meet.

The Officials Pentathlon is a great swim meet to experience racing as they all swim 5 events and the day is broken up into senior and junior divisions on the day.

Only meets that are on this calendar will have coaches in attendance, especially those highlighted in bold. Please remember that the coaching program is designed around these swim meets.

South Australia States

I will be taking a strong GK team of about 15 swimmers to the South Australian State Championships in July. This will be a great opportunity for our swimmers to gain experience for hopefully higher levels of swimming in the future. I will be looking at doing this sort of trip/development team every 2 years. This will be a major weekend of racing for all swimmers in Age Development Squads and above whether in Adelaide or not, as the club will be racing at the Perth City Classic on that weekend as well. “Swim Fast!”

“I’m not allowed to do any arm exercises in dryland”. No problem, anyone want to guess what push-ups are?

“I really need to go to the toilet?” I answer ,”finish the main set then go.” Set finished. “I don’t need to go in the Easy sets”

“Do you put these coffee pods in water, like a tea bag?”

“Is there going to be a lane free for our club? Check picture attached.
